Die Stadt Syke hat die im Stadtkern gelegenen Grundstücke Hauptstraße 31 und 33 aus einer Erbmasse erworben. Auf dem Grundstück Hauptstraße 33 befindet sich das ehemalige, denkmalgeschützte "Wessel's Hotel" nebst rückwärtigen Anbauten, darunter ein ehemaliger Schießstand; auf dem Grundstück Hauptstraße 31 befindet sich ein weiteres Bestandsgebäude. Die Stadt Syke beabsichtigt, das ehemalige, denkmalgeschützte Wessels Hotel auf dem Grundstück Hauptstraße 33 in 28857 Syke einschließlich der für das Vorhaben vorgesehenen rückwärtigen Gebäudeteile und Ergänzungsbauten zu einem öffentlichen Bibliotheks- und Kulturzentrum umzunutzen. Das Vorhaben soll einen zentralen, niedrigschwellig zugänglichen Ort für Bibliothek, Bildung, Begegnung, Kultur und Veranstaltungen schaffen und die historische Bausubstanz dauerhaft einer tragfähigen öffentlichen Nutzung zuführen.
