Where are architecture tenders published in Switzerland?
On simap.ch, the joint platform of the Confederation, the cantons and the communes, where you also download the documents. A few notices also appear in TED. TenderDesk gathers both in one feed.
What are SIA 142 and SIA 143?
The rules of the Swiss Society of Engineers and Architects for design competitions (SIA 142: project and ideas competitions, anonymous, judged by a jury) and for parallel study commissions (SIA 143: Studienaufträge or mandats d'études parallèles, where a few paid teams work in dialogue with the client).
Which procedures will I meet?
The open and the selective procedure for larger contracts, the invitation procedure (Einladungsverfahren) for smaller ones, and direct awards below that. In a selective procedure you first apply with your references; only the selected teams submit an offer or a design.
Can an architecture firm from the EU bid in Switzerland?
Yes. Switzerland opens its larger public contracts to EU firms through the WTO Government Procurement Agreement and its bilateral agreement with the EU. Some cantons regulate the profession, so check what the tender asks for, such as entry in the Swiss REG register or an equivalent qualification.
